The "72er" is our best selling and probably most prolific coast fly.
The tail is made of extra soft and long spey hackles, while the three body and front hackles are segmented for extra movement.
This pattern fishes well at any time of the year and in almost any condition, but has proven particularly efficient in slightly cloudy and turbulent water when stripped quickly. However, due to the super soft material and its transparency, it can also be slowly fished in calm, clear water.
The 72 was developed by the fly tyer Oliver Oelze. Incidentally, the unconventional name comes from the first fish ever caught with this fly - a fat, 72 cm long sea trout from the Baltic coast.
